i haven't done much creatively since the pseudoregalia vid. to be honest, i don't know how i feel about it. not in terms of quality, and i recognize that it isn't some kind of citizen kane-esc pièce de résistance, but i mean just on a personal note:
was it worth it?
for something that was bouncing in my head for a year, that i was compelled to make, why does the video feel so inconsequential now? from a purely skill development standpoint, i could see an arguement for it being important, but from a cultural perspective, was it ever important? i'm compelled to say my piece on this after watching the Dan Olsen video I Don't Know James Rolfe, which is a super fascinating video but it always leads me to a point of reflection. one of the thesis of that vid proposes that, like the AVGN, Dan is insecure about being a "filmmaker" and is simply a "youtuber" instead. this leads me to ponder what i've done in the creative space. i don't know what qualifies as "art". i don't know what pieces have "value". what makes a movie a film? what elevates a game to the status of art? what's the difference between an introspective documentary video vs a hand drawn animation vs a goofy video game review? is one more important than the other?
i feel i must confess that i don't believe that the videos i've made are art. i don't think im pretentious enough to pretend that lebron james scream if you love btd6 is art. i'm very conflicted to argue that any review can be consider art (perhaps a debate for another time) but i still wonder; do these endevors have value? intrensic or extrensic? if so, why?
even taking a step further back, does this blog post have value? can you consider the thoughts of a goofball on the internet art?
maybe it's all just what you make of it.
now aside from all that nonsense, things are going well for me :) no real plans for creating anything rn but i liked this rant. been toying with the idea of doing "games in games" again but we'll see if i commit to that or not. music has been fun tho, would also like to do more recordings there. lowkey just been busy enjoying the social bits of life.
